Creative Movement + Play for Adults

ON HIATUS
If you’d like to hear about when Musement starts back up again, please leave your email below.
Musement, short for music and movement (and a play on the word “amusement"), is a conscious dance practice that takes itself lightly and places silliness, play and creativity at its core.
Musement is a great movement practice for folks of all ages and abilities. And can be done in a chair, against the wall, or on a mat. You could even lie down the entire time and wiggle your toes and that would be just as fantastic.
YOUR MUSE-MENTOR: Katie Brennan (aka KrakenK )
Part pop music priestess, part absurd taskmaster and part floppy muppy puppy who instantly falls in love with everyone she meets, Musement is the culmination of Katie’s journey through art, movement and music — including her lifelong devotion to listening to music and making endless playlists.
Katie is a trained Dance Your Ability Therapeutic Outreach Facilitator, a certified Lifecycle Celebrant® + an ordained Metaphysical Minister, as well as a visual artist. And has been dancing 5 Rhythms since 2013 + producing 5 Rhythms workshops since 2015.

What to Expect / How We Do This
Settle / Hello Body
Every Musement session begins with tuning into your body. Finding a comfortable position. Nice, soft breath. And saying hello to all the parts of your beloved, beautiful body. Hello feet. Hello knees. Hello hair follicles.
Warm up / Activation
Once we’ve welcomed our bodies, we move into a warm-up. Shaking things out. Waking things up. Seeing how your body wants to move today. And what’s going on inside of you.
PLAY
Then the magic begins. For every Musement session there is a theme of exploration that comes with games, activations, props… maybe even costumes… one day ;) Don’t worry, EVERYTHING is optional; just suggestions. YOU decide how and where you participate in every moment of Musement based on what you feel in your mind, heart + body.
Rest / Thank You Body
We always leave some time to rest and integrate. Doing some delicious last stretches. And giving thanks to our bodies - every single body part.
Closing Circle
And we end with a quick closing circle where we look at each other and give thanks for the magic we just made together. Participation is optional.
We begin promptly at 11am.
But if you’re a bit late, or need to leave early,
please give Katie a heads up and just slip on in or out.
If you’re late, and have not paid, payment will be taken promptly after the class.
What to Wear:
On your feet: bare feet, socks, or indoor shoes.
Wear what feels comfortable to you and allows full range of movement. Dress in layers - you’ll likely be both hot and cool at different times. You’re also welcome to bring a blanket or shawl to make you extra cozy.
You’re also welcome to bring a yoga mat or blanket to lie on. Please place it in the designated area(s) so that we can maximize our floor space.
Music
The music in Musement irreverently bounces all over the place from mega-hit bangers from across the decades, to the freshest cool beats, to stirring classical, to obscure instrumentals, to groovy world beats, to jingles and songs with funny lyrics… and yes, even some swear words :P
Got a favourite song that ALWAYS makes you move your feet?
Tell me about it!
Sensory Sensitivities
Everyone feels a bit different in their body. So if too much volume or certain kinds of noises are hard for you, please bring along items like earplugs and noise-canceling headphones. Dark glasses are also welcome, if you’re sensitive to light.
Masks or no masks?
You are absolutely 100% welcome to wear a mask to Musement. There will also be a designated area for folks such as yourself to move more comfortably.
